Rebuilding Together 2010

Architecture for Humanity Chicago had another great day at Rebuilding Together 2010. We were victorious over unpainted walls, tricky IKEA cabinetry, and unaccesible bathrooms, and can't wait to do it again next year!

Street Furniture Competition Installation in Little Village

In partnership with Archeworks and Enlace Chicago, we have installed the winning competition entry by MAS Studio into a developing park at 26th and Trumbull in Little Village. A huge build day saw several modules constructed, filled, and painted on site. More information to come on volunteer days for planting.

See the competition winners and finalists. We plan to post all the entries shortly, but given their number it may take us a few days.

New Special Programs Co-Chair

We are pleased to introduce our new Co-Chair of Special Programs, Erica Carvalho! Elections were held at our Febuary chapter meeting for this open board position. Previously Erica has led the chapter's efforts for the Sao Paolo Soccer Camp project and contributed to the AFH-Chicago centered entry to the 2009 Natural Talent Design Competition sponsored by the USGBC. We're thrilled to have her on the board!

PechaKucha Global Day For Haiti in Chicago

We had a great turnout Saturday at Martyr's for the Chicago stage of PechaKucha Global Day for Haiti! Included in the illustrious list of presentors was AFH Chicago's very own Katherine Darnstadt, who talked about the chapter's recent projects and how to get involved as AFH Chicago supports Architecture for Humanity with reconstruction for Haiti. Logo Competition Winner Announced

Congratulations to Preema Modi, winner of the Architecture for Humanity Chicago Logo Competition! We're grateful to everyone who entered, especially our other finalists Annabella Orlando, Kaitlin McVehil, Erica Carvalho, Charlotte Nelms, and Daniel Rollet. There were an amazing 74 entries, including some from as far away as France and India. The five finalists were selected by popular vote during the November meeting, and the winner was picked from these by Architecture for Humanity's national office. Although Geoff and John had nothing to do with the final decision, they're quite pleased orange is still our signature color.

Holiday Hangover Party and Silent Auction

Architecture for Humanity Chicago thanks everyone for coming out for our first ever holiday hangover party and silent auction. We are ever grateful for your support of our local projects and our national efforts for reconstruction in Haiti. We had a great turnout including our partners from Food Desert Action and several first-time volunteers. A special thanks goes out to Steelcase for hosting us in their gorgeous showroom.
